To break free from its clutches, we must confront stress fourfold. Ignoring even one facet leaves the door ajar for lingering complaints, forever obstructing the path to true liberation. Imagine trying to quench a fire with only a single bucket of water—it may temporarily suppress the flames, but the embers will continue to smoke, ready to erupt once more.
By acknowledging the multifaceted nature of stress, we gain a comprehensive understanding of its impact on our lives. We will no longer be content with superficial solutions that merely mask the symptoms. Instead, we delve deep into the heart of stress, examining its emotional ramifications, toll on our physical well-being, stronghold on our mental clarity, and influence on our neurological functioning.
The fourfold approach empowers us to address stress at its core, dismantling its grip layer by layer. As we precisely tackle each dimension, we witness the transformation unfold before our very eyes—like a phoenix rising from the ashes, we emerge stronger, wiser, and liberated.
So let us embrace this holistic methodology, fortified by the understanding that the key to lasting relief lies in a united front against stress. We shall unlock the door to a life free from complaints, embracing a newfound vitality and vigor. Armed with this knowledge, we journey towards a harmonious existence—navigating life's challenges with resilience, joy, and determination. The fourfold path awaits, leading us to a brighter, healthier, and more empowered future.

Former Mentee of Mark wrote this amazing testimonial after three months;
On June 4, 2022, I became aware of an event called the "Firefighter Stair Climb." This event was associated with a noble cause, the "Stichting Liberated from PTSD" (Foundation Liberated from PTSD). I immediately decided to participate because in 2016 I was diagnosed with PTSD, and if I could raise money for this cause, I was determined to do so. And so, with seven fellow firefighters, we took on the Stair Climb and raised funds for the "foundation."
On September 11, 2022, the day of the Stair Climb in Almere, we were all excited and eager to reach our goal. Halfway through the day, there was an official moment where we could hand over the money we had raised to the foundation. It was a profoundly emotional moment, and it was when I first met Danielle. As we embraced, she said to me, "Let me help you," like many with PTSD, I replied, "I'll be fine; I can handle it." Danielle responded, "We will meet again, I promise!"
On April 18, 2023, I found myself overwhelmed. My mind was racing, problems at work and challenges at home. For weeks, even months, I pondered how to find peace. I even thought of finding an escape, not that I wanted to end my life, but I needed a release from the struggles. Physical symptoms were wearing me down, and I couldn't bear it any longer. After much insistence from my wife, I finally reached out to the foundation for help because I couldn't go on like this. Ten minutes later, Danielle was on the phone with me, saying, "Barry, it's over, and I will help you." The next day, I went on sick leave (after completely breaking down), and in the afternoon, I had my first contact with Mark (through the foundation), seeking help. It felt so good to be understood, acknowledged, and heard. Within three weeks, I was attending a 3-day training with Mark. Before the training, Mark sent me several tips, which I followed, and I already felt a small change, and my wife noticed it too. One of the practices was repeating at least 50 times daily: "I am Positive, Grateful, and Full of Confidence." Before bed, I stopped reading or watching the news and avoiding social media.
On May 9, 2023, my wife and I traveled to Zwijndrecht to learn Mark's methodology and liberate myself from PTSD. Having my wife by my side was comforting because PTSD is not something you face alone. In the morning, Mark called to check on me and ensure I could attend the scheduled intake. We decided to do the intake during a walk, so I took good shoes and a warm jacket due to the weather. We were supposed to meet at 11:45 am, and I was pretty nervous about it. And there came Mark, reaching out to me, holding me tightly, and saying, "Now I've got you, and I won't let you go." It was a moment filled with emotions. I hardly noticed the rain as we conducted the intake in a park. After completing the intake, my wife continued with Mark, and I went with Danielle as planned. Later, we met again, and together, we discussed the day and reviewed the seven meters of paper filled with information. This led us to communicate again as a couple and engage in conversations we hadn't had in years, bringing back the attention we once had for each other.
On May 10, 2023, we started the second training day. The three of us walked in the floodplains in the morning, along with Mark's dogs. During this walk, we discussed how I experienced the first day and what I remembered. I couldn't recall all the details, which I felt frustrated about, but Mark assured me not to put too much pressure on myself. Later, my wife also received attention from Mark during the walk. She noticed a significant change in me physically, particularly with my tense belly becoming flexible again. Mark explained that it took the effort to achieve that change. My wife also expressed her desire to talk with Danielle as partners, which Mark promptly arranged for them. In the afternoon, Mark and I returned to his house for the second training day. Once again, I found a roll of paper prepared for me, where I had to write about what was going well, what I was grateful for, what could be better, and a meaningful quote. The most profound quote I came up with was: "Trauma (mental and/or physical) minus (!) emotion = wisdom." We delved into the method, discussing its effectiveness and how it worked. Mark emphasized the importance of repeating the routine daily to make the process successful. We also explored the concept of time, including time that recharges my energy and time that drains it. We discussed the significance of a particular drawing representing a lat (or bar) - a bar I had set too high for myself for a long time. Mark helped me understand that it's okay not to have everything figured out in detail. At that moment, a realization hit me, and we proceeded with the fourth, fifth, and sixth steps of the method: Intentions, Goals, and Mindset. After several hours, Danielle took me back to the hotel, where she spoke with my wife about our progress. After two hours of talking as partners, Danielle joined us in our room, and we reviewed the second paper roll together. It felt so right, and I couldn't help but wonder what was happening to me and us.
On May 11, 2023, the last day of the three-day training arrived. I was eager to go home, but at the same time, I worried about how my children would react to my changed version. Again, we started with a morning walk together. Upon returning to Mark's house, he helped me identify my trauma, and we immediately took action, securing his car in a safe place, and we did an exercise together. During this process, it became evident that I should focus on the present and the future, not dwelling on the past. We continued with the routine, going through the first six steps of the method. Mark questioned the sequence of the steps, ensuring it was effective and foolproof. We proceeded to the last three steps: Habits, Routine, and Self-Confidence. Mark shared things he couldn't possibly know through this session but somehow did. He clarified that my fight was over, and I had to forgive myself. He prepared me for the upcoming days, explaining what I should expect and what I needed to do - something I had never been told by any psychologist or counselor before. Step 9, Self-Confidence, says it all: trust yourself, express love and gratitude to your Queen (my wife) without shame, guilt, or helplessness, and achieve the highest possible. After the training, we thanked Mark and Danielle but knew it wasn't goodbye.
Throughout the three-day training, I experienced moments of joy and tears. I transformed from a bundle of stress to a state of relaxation. One puzzle piece after another fell into place, and my puzzle was complete after this training. I moved from merely surviving to truly living. I returned home as an improved version of myself, and as a couple, my wife and I returned as a stronger unit. We became a better family at home because of the methodology I embraced. I am immensely grateful that my wife could be a part of this journey, and I fully understand now that PTSD doesn't just affect the individual; it affects the entire family.
